What to include in your first e-mail

A short, clear first message helps us assess your matter quickly. Please include:

  • a short description of what happened and what you want to achieve;
  • which side you are on – for example creditor or debtor, employer or employee, claimant or defendant;
  • copies of the key documents: contracts, invoices, letters, notices and any court documents;
  • any deadline you know of.

Tell us about deadlines

Some deadlines in Estonia are short. For example, under § 105 of the Employment Contracts Act (TLS), an application to the Labour Dispute Committee (töövaidluskomisjon) or a claim to a court to have the termination of an employment contract declared void must be filed within 30 calendar days of receiving the notice of termination. If this deadline is missed and not restored, the termination is treated as valid from the start and the contract ends on the date stated in the notice. If you have been sued, the court will also set a deadline for your written reply. If there is a deadline, put the date at the start of your e-mail. Read more in our guide to termination of employment in Estonia.

What happens next

We read your message and reply, usually within one working day. If we can help, we agree the scope, the desired result and the price with you before any work starts. New clients normally pay 50–100% in advance or prepay the first agreed stage. Our prices are on the fees page.

Please note that we advise only on Estonian law and work directly with the client, not through intermediaries. Learn more about Erovik Law Office.
